The Contemporary Music Centre is the main focus for new music in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. It runs a number of development and education projects to promote interest in Irish composition at home and abroad.
The Contemporary Music Centre issues a series of promotional CDs under the title Contemporary Music from Ireland
. These 'musical calling cards' contain a selection of recent solo and chamber works by some of Ireland's most active and interesting composers. Volume Three was released in 2001 and Volumes One and Two are still available. Please contact us
if you would like copies or visit the Shop
for a full selection of Irish contemporary music on CD.
Archival Recordings Scheme
CMC's Archival Recordings Scheme, supported by Arts Council funding, allows recordings of works by Irish composers to be made for archival purposes which would otherwise not be recorded from any other source (e.g. for a radio broadcast or a CD). Composers, performers or venues may contact CMC for inclusion in the scheme, although due to budget constraints it is not always possible to respond to every application.
Meet the Composer!
This programme, running since 1993, sends composers all around Ireland and occasionally abroad to give interval and pre-concert talks in conjunction with performances of their music. Applications for participation in the scheme are accepted from composers or concert promoters.
Contemporary Music Centre Editions
CMC's SoundWorks series of educational publications was founded in 1996 to publish simple instrumental music by leading Irish composers experienced in writing for younger students. The aim is to make Irish music of high quality readily available to teachers and their pupils from the very earliest stages. These scores are available from the Shop.
The Centre publishes recital-standard solo instrumental and chamber works by Irish composers. Contemporary Music Centre Editions
includes 14 compositions for piano specially commissioned as test pieces for the Dublin International Piano Competition since its inception in 1988. All scores in the series are available from the Shop
