Contemporary Music from Ireland, Volume 10
The Contemporary Music Centre's long-running CD series, Contemporary Music from Ireland has been in existence since 1995. The series presents a selection of new works by a cross-section of Irish composers who are active in composition, and aims to give the listener a snapshot of current trends in new Irish music. The CDs are distributed Internationally to a targeted list of performers, promoters, festivals, radio stations, libraries and universities.
Volume 10 features music by ten composers, all written in the past five years. Many composers - Enda Bates, Ann Cleare, Neil O'Connor, Amanda Feery, Adam Melvin, Donal Sarsfield, and Garrett Sholdice - are represented on the series for the first time. Also featured are a number of composers who have appeared on earlier volumes of the series - Ed Bennett, Brian Irvine and Ailís Ní Ríain. Together, the works present a vibrant and multi-faceted view of new Irish music in 2011.
The CD also showcases some of the most exciting and accomplished performers of new music today. This impressive line up includes Irish-based new music group, the Crash Ensemble, clarinetist Paul Roe, Baroque violinist Maya Homburger and bassist Barry Guy, UK-based new music ensemble Decibel, and pianist Mary Dullea.
