Neil completed his PhD in Composition with Donnacha Dennehy at Trinity College Dublin, where he also gained a Masters in Music and Media Technology in 2011. Beginning his career as a filmmaker, Neil has been involved in a diverse range of musical activities including folk, jazz, rock, contemporary, experimental, electronic and electro-acoustic music and has toured extensively in Ireland, Europe, Australia, Asia and the US. Neil has also scored a large number of documentaries, shorts and feature films for Irish Film Board, some of which won international prizes. His work was been shown/performed at the Dublin Electronic Arts Festival, Fringe Festival, Resonances Festival @ IRCAM Paris, 60 X 60 NYC, Kunsthalle, Berlin, Massachusetts Museum of Modern Art and the ICA, London. Neil has also been a participant in the Bang On a Can Summer School at MASS MOCA. Recent projects include a featuring on Wire Magazine’s Wire Tapper CD, a residency at the Institute of Electro-Acoustic Music, Stockholm, Sweden, collaboration projects at CNMAT – Center for New Music and Audio Technologies, University of California, Berkeley and with David Crowell (Phillip Glass Ensemble). In 2012, the piece Erstwhile was officially selected for the ICMC (International Conference for Computer Music) in Slovenia.

Neil is represented in Ireland by the CMC (Contemporary Music Centre) and the ICC (Irish Composers Collective) and published by IMRO (Irish Musical Rights Organization). He is currently based in the US, where he lectures in music/audio at the Institute of Audio Research, New York City.
