Bryan Quigley is a composer, double bass player and improviser. He began his composition studies with Eric Sweeney in Waterford Institute of Technology where he graduated with a BA Mus in 2001 and in 2003 he received a first class honours MA in Composition from NUI Maynooth, where he studied with John Buckley and Martin O’ Leary. In 2006, supported by the Irish Arts Council, he travelled to Switzerland for private tuition in composition and bass with bass player and composer Barry Guy, a major influence on his writing and performing.

His compositional output floats between notated and open form works. He has composed music for large orchestra, small ensemble, choir, solo instrumental and tape in addition to his improvisations for double bass. He is especially interested in using graphic scores, writing works for extended bass techniques and more recently has started experimenting in the area of music theatre. As a performer with the EAR and Hilltown ensembles he regularly collaborates with composers who use live electronics in improvisatory scenarios.
