New Music Dublin 2024: Evlana Sinfonietta

28 April 2024 17:00

Main Stage, National Concert Hall

Evlana Sinfonietta

Placing contemporary music at the heart of its programming, pioneering group Evlana provides opportunities for Ireland’s most accomplished musicians and composers to present their work—with forces ranging from small ensemble to a sinfonietta-sized orchestra. Join the Evlana Sinfonietta for an eclectic and absorbing performance of Irish and international music for string orchestra.

Opening the concert, inti figgis-vizueta’s groundbreaking Talamh and Ryan Molloy's vibrant Luasc evoke their own, unique memories and visions of Ireland. Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist’s Taromirs Tid masterfully brings to mind imagery of slowed-down, dream-like time and light emerging from darkness—while Claud Vivier’s captivating Zipangu ventures further afield, taking its inspiration from the kabuki theatres in Tokyo. The programme is built around the centrepiece of an exciting new commission from acclaimed Dublin composer Rhona Clarke.

This world premiere performance of Rhona Clarke’s Rough Beast II was commissioned by Evlana/NMD with funds from the Arts Council of Ireland.
