Anselm McDonnell 'Kraina' Album Launch
McMordie Hall, Music Building, Queen's University Belfast
The Contemporary Music Centre and Moving on Music are delighted to present the launch of Kraina, a new album of works by CMC composer Dr Anselm McDonnell.
Join us for a selection of works from the new release performed by Cahal Masterson (piano) and Rebecca Murphy (soprano).
Kraina is a word in Old Polish meaning edge, borderland, or frontier. The pieces on this release are concerned with the edges and crevices around home: depicting people searching for home, caught between homes, or our destructive relationship with our planetary home. A close collaboration between the composer and several poets, the themes range from highly personal, local contemplations of home and the more turbulent and complex relationship we have with the idea of a global or national home.
Kraina is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the PRS Foundation, the National Concert Hall Dublin, the Contemporary Music Centre Ireland, and the Office of Public Works Ireland.
