Brent Parker (1933-2017)

The death has occurred of composer Brent Parker.

Brent (Achill Island, Co Mayo, formerly of Bray, Co Wicklow, and Christchurch, New Zealand) died on 28 December 2017, peacefully, in his 85th year, at University Hospital Galway, surrounded by family and listening to his own music, after an illness borne bravely and with great dignity.

Reposing on Friday, 12 January 2018, at Conneely’s Funeral Home, Flood Street, Galway, from 4pm to 7pm. Removal from the Funeral Home at 11.30am on Saturday, 13 January 2018, to St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Lombard Street, Galway, arriving for his Funeral Service at 12 noon. Cremation service at 5pm in Shannon Crematorium, Illaunmanagh, Shannon, Co Clare.

A composer-pianist, former Lecturer in piano at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin, and teacher at the Mayo School of Music, Castlebar, Brent was the deeply loved and loving husband of Sheila Sullivan, and will be mourned by his large family to whom he was devoted.

He will also be mourned by his many former students and colleagues, friends, neighbours and musicians who played his symphony, two piano concertos, orchestral and choral works, and pieces for classical guitar, strings and piano in Ireland, England, France, Spain, Greece, China, Russia, the United States and New Zealand.
