Dublin City Council presents The Smithfield Sessions featuring "Sound Out" with CMC Emerging Composers Aoife Kavanagh & Paul Scully and a workshop in composition led by Áine Mallon

Dublin City Council presents The Smithfield Sessions, curated by First Music Contact, in partnership with The Contemporary Music Centre, Improvised Music Company and Music Network. The Smithfield Sessions invites people of all ages to discover emerging musicians from the contemporary, popular, jazz and classical music genres on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November from 12 noon to 6pm. The event will showcase eight emerging acts and give people an opportunity to attend free masterclasses in drumming, composition, group music-making and an introduction to improvisation workshop.

Free Workshops & Masterclasses

Workshops and masterclasses run from 12noon to 2pm each day and are free to attend on a walk up first come first served basis.

On Saturday 12 November, CMC Composer Áine Mallon will lead a workshop in composition for children. This is followed by a drumming workshop with Micháel Quinn (Dermot Kennedy’s drummer).

On Sunday masterclasses include an introduction to improvisation workshop with Lina Andonovska followed by a workshop in group music-making led by fiddle player Zoë Conway.

Showcase Performances

Showcase performances will run from 2pm to 6pm each day and are also free to attend.

CMC Emerging Composers 2022: Paul Scully & Aoife Kavanagh

On Saturday, showcase performances include:

"Sound Out" new music with CMC Emerging Composers Aoife Kavanagh and Paul Scully, presented in collaboration with The Contemporary Music Centre.

Woven Kin with Aisling Urwin and Siobhán Moore, and a traditional ensemble led by TG4 Young Musician of the Year 2022, Diarmuid Ó Meachair, presented in collaboration with Music Network.

On Sunday showcase performances will include:

Aleka and The Matthew Halpin Group, presented in collaboration with Improvised Music Company.

Aoife Wolf and Bricknasty, presented by The Smithfield Sessions' curators - First Music Contact.
