CMC will host panel discussion as part of Moving on Music's Night Music series

In association with Moving on Music's Night Music Chamber Music Series, the Contemporary Music Centre will host a panel discussion prior to the first concert in the series.

The pre-concert discussion, hosted by Greg Caffery on behalf of CMC, will take place in Duncairn Centre for Arts in Belfast. The panel will feature composer Amy Rooney and members of the Robinson Panoramic Quartet. Amy will discuss her Moving on Music commission and how she approached composing for the Robinson Panoramic Quartet's instrumentation of violin, viola, cello and double bass. The panel will also discuss Raymond Deane's Quadripartita and Matthew Whiteside's Quartet, both composed for the quartet's line-up.

The concert will take place at 9pm and, as well as the works by Raymond Deane, Matthew Whiteside and the new work by Amy Rooney, will also feature works by Ondrej Adamek and Bohuslav Martinů.

The Robinson Panoramic Quartet comprises members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Crash Ensemble. These musicians are at the forefront of their field in Ireland and are continually involved in many diverse chamber music projects. This pioneering group explores the possibilities of an alternative to the conventional string quartet in which both tonal palette and range are extended. Composers have reacted very enthusiastically and they have built up a significant repertoire for the Robinson Panoramic Quartet.
