Herbert Hughes
'Songs of Connacht' contains 9 original art songs by Herbert Hughes, the composer best known for his arrangements of Irish folk songs. With the exception of 'O Men from the Fields', these songs are comparatively unknown and have been out of print until this new edition and recordings were prepared by Áine Mulvey and Elizabeth Hilliard in 2022, in collaboration with the Contemporary Music Centre and the Arts Council of Ireland. The recordings were made at a live performance at Sandford Church, Rathgar, on Friday 24 June 2022. The songs are in the public domain and may be freely distributed. The generosity of the Colum family is gratefully acknowledged for permission to include the texts by Padraic Colum.
