RTÉ Horizons Series 2010

The RTÉ Horizons series of free lunchtime concerts continues on 2 February.

The first concert on 12 January featured Deirdre Gribbin's Empire States and Venus Blazing, with soloist Bradley Creswick and conductor Gavin Moloney.

On 19 January, Frank Corcoran's Four Orchestral Prayers and Quasi una Fuga will be accompanied by Lutoslawski's Novelette. The soloist is Chloe Hinton (Mez) with conductor Colman Pearce, and again there will be a composer talk beforehand.

RTÉ Composer in Residence Elaine Agnew has performances of Wait and See, Make a Wish (RTÉ lyric fm commission) and Straight to the Point in her concert on 2 February. Also in the programme are Elena Kats-Chernin's Displaced Dances and Stephen Gardner's The Ship Yard. The piano solost is Finghín Collins and the conductor is David Brophy, with a pre-concert composer talk.

The final concert is on 9 February, when Brian Irvine features with his Montana Strange, performed by Paul Dunmall (sax), conducted by the composer himself, who also gives a pre-concert talk. The concert also includes Bill Cambell's Weather Report.

All the concerts are given by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and take place at the National Concert Hall on Tuesdays at 1.05-2.00pm, with pre-concert talks commencing at 1230pm. Admission free. Booking: 01-417 0000.
