Dublin Sound Lab presents Music Current 2024

2 April 2024 15:00 - 6 April 2024 20:00

Dublin Sound Lab’s Music Current festival returns this April with an outstanding dive into light, breath and video this year, as the annual five-day festival programme showcases some of the best Irish and international contemporary music makers. The festival will host 5 new concerts, Black Page Orchestra, Tak Ensemble, lovemusic collective and the return of Nadar Ensemble, as well as workshops on AI, electronic music and new composition, and more discussions that explore cutting edge new music and the future of music. The festival will take place from 2-6 April at its creative home, the Project Arts Centre, with satellite workshops and talks located at the Contemporary Music Centre on 19 Fishamble Street, Dublin 8 (within 5 minutes walk).

Music Current continues to platform some of the most trailblazing music artists including composer João Pedro Oliveira (Portugal), TAK Ensemble (USA), Black Page Orchestra (Austria), Nadar Ensemble (Belgium) and lovemusic collective (France) - most performing in Ireland for the very first time. These international ensembles and performers will feature diverse and exciting new music , including works by CMC Composers John McLachlan, Daniel McDermott, Amanda Feery, Ann Cleare and Fergal Dowling.

The Contemporary Music Centre is delighted to continue its ongoing partnership with Music Current festival in supporting the professional development programme. Composers resident on the island of Ireland travelling from outside Dublin (within Ireland) to attend Music Current's talks and workshops may apply to CMC for a bursary to cover the cost of travel, subsistence and their workshop entry fee (up to a maximum amount of €80). Contact festival staff when attending workshop events, or email info@musiccurrent.ie for more information.

In addition to the festival's concerts, talks and workshops, Music Current has launched a commission opportunity for a work to be performed by Dublin Sound Lab at the 2025 edition. The deadline for submissions to this call is Friday 29 March 2024 at midnight. For more on this opportunity, see CMC Opportunities here.
